Global Green Wave

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

They’re talkin’ global change for the better at Tulane, and a presidential V.I.P. is leading the charge.

Former President Bill Clinton’s inaugural meeting at Tulane University has taken over the campus this weekend. The Clinton Global Initiative or CGIU is geared to get college students to address global issues through workshops and meetings on things like climate change, human rights, global health and poverty alleviation. Those who attend are expected to commit to address one of those topics and then later report to Clinton on progress made.

Seven-hundred students from across the globe, university presidents, celebrities and local leaders are all part of various panel discussions and speeches at the school.

Tomorrow March 16 , actor, Brad Pitt gets in on the Clinton Fray.

Pitt’s Make it Right project from the 9th Ward will be the site for Clinton and CGIU participants.

Friday, March 14th, 2008

A charity co-founded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle and Matt Damon has donated $500,000 (£250,000) to the United Nations World Food Program.
The money, handed over by the stars’ Not On Our Watch organisation, is earmarked for the U.N.’s food aid agency to prevent hunger in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan.

In a statement, Clooney said: “Without immediate additional funding, humanitarian aid in the region will be crippled.”

Not On Our Watch has raised more than $9.3 million (£4.65 million) for Darfur, and last year (07) donated $1 million (£500,000) to the World Food Program.
Clooney has become a leading celebrity advocate for action against the genocide in the Sudan after filming a documentary about the crisis last year (06).

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Is super-celeb couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie taking their family across the Atlantic?
The couple has made an offer on an 850-year-old stone house in Eygalieres, in France’s Provence region, Us Magazine reports. The couple reportedly first looked at the $20 million property, it’s official name is “Mas de la Chapelle St. Sixte,” but decided against it when Brad, a huge motorcycle enthusiast, was reportedly told he could not build a motorcycle track in the lavish five-acre garden of the property.
Luckily, Brad was given permission to build the track, according to a source who told the magazine, “As soon as they found out it was now possible, they jumped at the chance.”
