Brad’s Younger Brother Is Pushing A New Fund For Students

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Doug Pitt — younger brother of the more well-known Brad Pitt — has announced a new initiative called the “Care to Learn” fund which is all about kids’ health, hunger and hygiene. The new fund is also being supported by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, a humanitarian fund supported by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. From the article,

“Says Doug, ‘The idea was to help kids that show up on a school day with an immediate need. We need to get to them quick, obviously. So we set up this fund to do just that. Last week, we had a kid need clothes and food. And within 20 minutes - from the phone call - counselors, teachers, principals, make a call to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools. And they’re on it. They now have the funds to address that urgent need.’”

The fund is exclusively setup for the moment to address the needs of Springfield Public Schools only — but we imagine if it takes off there, that more districts will one day participate. For more information, please visit the Care to Learn Fund website.

CLOONEY, PITT & DAMON’S ORGANISATION GIVES $500,000 TO DARFUR

Friday, March 14th, 2008

A charity co-founded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle and Matt Damon has donated $500,000 (£250,000) to the United Nations World Food Program.
The money, handed over by the stars’ Not On Our Watch organisation, is earmarked for the U.N.’s food aid agency to prevent hunger in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan.

In a statement, Clooney said: “Without immediate additional funding, humanitarian aid in the region will be crippled.”

Not On Our Watch has raised more than $9.3 million (£4.65 million) for Darfur, and last year (07) donated $1 million (£500,000) to the World Food Program.
Clooney has become a leading celebrity advocate for action against the genocide in the Sudan after filming a documentary about the crisis last year (06).
