Actor Brad Pitt was among the buyers of contemporary “design art” furniture at the Design Miami/Basel fair in Switzerland, dealers said today.

Billionaires Roman Abramovich, one of Russia’s richest men, and Aditya Mittal, ArcelorMittal chief financial officer, were also seen visiting the fair, said exhibiting dealers.

Pitt, 44, bought and expressed interest in several pieces during his visit to Basel’s 1920s domed Markethalle yesterday. He also looked at contemporary works at the main Art Basel show.

The film star paid 150,000 pounds ($293,000) for a hollow white marble rococo-style table by the Dutch designer Jeroen Verhoeven at the booth of the London-based Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Director Loic Le Gaillard said in an interview today.

Just two weeks ago Jolie, 32, publicly acknowledged she was pregnant with twins during an interview at the Cannes film festival, where she was promoting the animated film “Kung Fu Panda” and the latest Clint Eastwood drama, “The Exchange.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine due to hit newsstands next week and excerpted on its Web site on Friday, Jolie said Pitt found her to be very appealing when pregnant.

“I’m fortunate,” she told the magazine. “I think some women have a different experience depending on their partner. … I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.”

In Touch magazine reported this week that Jolie had been ordered to bed for the remainder of her pregnancy and was due to give birth via a Caesarean section around mid-July.

Soon-to-be father of six Brad Pitt is one busy daddy – as he’s been named designer of a green hotel and resort in Dubai.

“Whilst acting is my career, architecture is my passion,” Pitt, who is also building affordable, environmentally-friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, said in a statement. The 44-year-old movie star will be part of a team of design consultants for the 800-room, five-star hotel spearheaded by L.A.-based architecture firm GRAFT.

“Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision,” Pitt added. “It will underpin not only my values for environmentally-friendly architecture, but also embrace my career in entertainment.”

Plans for the resort will be unveiled in the coming months.
